Helping Overpopulation of Pets End (HOPE), is here to educate the public about the problem and put an end to unwanted animals in Brevard County Florida. Too many animals are euthanized in the shelters in Brevard County. Brevard should strive to become a no-kill County, doing all it can to find homes for the animals in need. We assist low income residents of Brevard County FL with low cost/no cost spay/neuter, TNR, and emergency vet care. We foster animals in order to help abandoned, homeless, and stray animals find permanent and loving homes. We educate all people on proper pet care.

FOSMAS is an IRS-registered 501(c)(3) charity whose primary goal is to lower the euthanasia rate at the shelter, reduce the overpopulation of homeless cats, and provide public outreach services to help the animals in surrounding communities. We can accomplish this goal by increasing adoptions and expanding our volunteer program. We provide homes, medical and comfort care to all animals in foster care until adopted. We provide specialty services for care of pre-wean kittens, we train fosters in animal care and provide foster homes for those that choose to volunteer. FOSMAS provides all necessary food, supplies, and medical treatments for the pets it places in foster homes. We place them in adoption centers and holds pet fairs to find forever homes for the pets in our foster system.

Mission : Our mission is to do what we can, for as many as we can and hopefully one day no longer be needed! Our Inspiration : Vega's New Leash on Life was founded because, and named after, a rescued Flat-Coat / Lab Retriever mix named Vega who came to be a part of our family when my boyfriend brought her with him to live with us. She fell quickly into the matriarchal role in our pack of pups at home. She was always by your side and happy to follow you around the house wagging her tail. She was one of the most loyal dogs I ever had the privilege to live with. She reminded me of my childhood dog, a black lab named Bianca. In August of 2012 I came home to work over lunch to find her being a bit lazy but wagging her tail nonetheless. In a few short but whirlwind hours she went from acting a bit ill to passing away at the vets office from an apparent unidentified tumor. At the age of 7 or 8 years old, she left us way too soon! After trying to settle into life without her in the pack of now 5 pups, we soon realized that her spot in the pack needed to be filled. There was no doubt that it needed to be filled by another rescue. After weeks of searching online I found a 4-5 month old puppy who appeared to be about the same breed and looked like an angel! We started the adoption process and within a few weeks were wrapped up in a world of rescues, shelters and transports. We made the 10+ hour drive to the shelter where she was being cared for in Bamberg, SC where we met an amazing man named Bob who devotes his time to helping the helpless. The shelter was a ram shackled place with about 40 dogs who had been abandoned or lost. Each and every one touched our hearts and we wished we could take them all home. While we were there to get her we helped to rescue two abandoned puppies from a culvert under the road. It was then that we knew that we had found our calling! Upon her arrival at her furever home… she was greeted by the other dogs with lots of sniffs and settled in quickly as the missing member of the pack. She fit like a glove! On our first walk that first night she led me by leash to our front yard and made a b-line to the tree where we had too recently buried our precious Vega. She walked slowly to her gravesite and bowed her head and “whisper-barked” and walked back toward the house. As if to say “it is okay, I will take care of them”! After spending an hour crying in disbelief, I knew she was exactly what we needed… and we were exactly what she needed! From that moment on we have been dedicated to do our best to not allow any other of man's best friends to go without all that they deserve! And here we are today.

We are a network of foster homes based in Bucks and Philadelphia counties. Throughout the year we participate in various adoption events to promote our group and find homes for our adoptable animals. Currently we use Facebook, Petfinder, Adopt a Pet, and our own website to post pictures and videos of our animals. We also promote TNR and will assist with trapping, neutering and release of feral cats. There is a huge problem in the US with pet overpopulation so we are trying to do our small part to rectify the problem.

Our organization is completely run by volunteers, everyone from the President to the person cleaning cages. We have 2 main focus areas. The first is that we want to find adoptable, homeless animals their forever home. We know that there currently is not enough room to hold all the stray cats in this area because of the government run shelters performing euthanasia to make more space for incoming animals. While we are no-kill and have limited space, we can still help take in some of the highly adoptable animals that would have been euthanized and find them a great home. Our volunteers love to care for the animals and get great joy in finding them that great home. A lot of them feel like every cat in the organization is their own. The second focus is that we want to resolve the over-population of cats issue in Chicago and its suburbs. To do this, we provide low-cost spay/neuter services to low-income people and rescues as well as provide trap/neuter/return services for feral cats. There are many rural farmers and people in surrounding counties to Chicago that just do not have the income to get the cats on their farm neutered, and so they start to accumulate very quickly. We have been able to assist many farms in slowing down and even stopping the growth of the number of cats on their farm and some of the cats from these farms we find great homes for! Overall, we enjoy what we do, helping both people with their pets and animals, and helping the animals too.
