We cater to senior dogs that have been turned into the shelter or to a veterinarian for for euthanasia but it is not their time yet. We get their medical needs met and if adoptable we adopt them out. If it isn't feasible to have them adopted they stay in our system until it is their time to cross the rainbow bridge.

We are a no kill shelter who aims to educate the public about responsible pet ownership & the importance of spaying and neutering pets. We encourage people to adopt pets instead of shopping for pets! We promote keeping pets healthy through routine vet care, getting adequate nutrition and exercise, and we recruit volunteers on a regular basis to work with our animals. We have very few employees (only 2 currently) and run almost entirely on a volunteer staff.

Every Pet's Dream

Every Pet's Dream is a small non-profit foster-based rescue dedicated to saving animals that otherwise would have been euthanized. We provide them a fresh start and an opportunity to find their forever home. In some cases we will take in owner surrenders. If animals could share their hopes and dreams with us, what would they say? They would say that they want to give love and be loved and cared for their entire lives. Every Pet's Dream believes that dogs feel safe with rules and boundaries and thrive with training, exercise and love. Cats also feel safe with boundaries, a great place to hide and plenty of love as well. Adopt for Life and Fulfill Every Pet's Dream!

Underdog Rescue and Placement was founded in 2000 by Shannon McKenzie. Having volunteered for several other animal rescue organizations, Shannon saw a need to help the dogs and cats often overlooked by other rescuers, the “Underdogs” Our very first rescues included a pair of black kittens named Fenway & Wrigley, a pitbull puppy named Lucy and a tiny Toy Poodle named Lily (who was suffering from a head injury). No other rescue groups would take Fenway or Wrigley because black kittens are often overlooked by potential adopters, and, up until the time we rescued Lucy, rescue groups had not been allowed to rescue any dog considered to be a “Pit Bull” from Minneapolis Animal Control. While in law school, Shannon McKenzie had the “anti-pitbull” policy changed, with the assistance of Attorney, Marshall Tannick. Underdog Rescue continues to successfully rescue and place pitbulls and other “bully-breeds” through a continued partnership with Minneapolis Animal Control. Shannon’s dedication to the Underdog also extends to puppy mill survivors. Dogs that survive life in a puppy mill often come with a different set of challenges. They may require additional medical care, socialization and teaching of basic dog skills even though some may be adults. Our volunteers understand this and welcome these pets into their homes to show them what life as a dog and life with kind humans is like.
