Small group of dedicated volunteers working to save huskies, husky mixes, and sometimes other dogs from shelters, people needing to regime their dogs and/or abandoned or injured dogs throughout the state of New Mexico and region.

Underhound Railroad was formed in 2009 by a group of friends, with a mission of rescuing innocent dogs from death row in Connecticut shelters. Underhound now tries to help wherever possible, focusing primarily in the southern parts of the country where shelters are overcrowded and the killing of adoptable dogs is prevalent. Through a network of volunteers, an undeserved death is prevented, medical needs are tended to, and transportation, as well as a loving foster family, are provided to the pups on their journey to finding their forever homes!

We are a not for profit animal shelter that take in cats and dogs as owner surrenders and also brings in other dogs from kill shelters. We currently have 9 board members and 4 part time employees. We run the shelter off of donations and also have volunteers that help with day to day activities.

Located in northern New Jersey we rescue dogs from high kill shelters in New Jersey, but save dogs from other areas when needed. Our management team has been involved in rescue for over 5 years managing a well established rescue with over 200 dogs. We are dedicated to saving 'all breeds with all needs'

Matty's story: I started to see Matty's picture posted on the MG Impound Dogs page in late October of 2012. Matty and his "mate", Athena, were in jail for bite quarantine. They were playing and a lady got scratched by either a tooth or a claw, and they could not determine by which dog. The owners knew Athena and Fatty (Matty's actual name from owner, Cheryl changed it because he was no Fatty) were there, but they didn't have the funds to pay for fees and vetting. Athena was rescued. From the time I saw Matty's picture, the one where he is sitting on Cheryl's shoes, I knew I needed him. I asked numerous big and small rescues if they would please pull Matty for me. Their answers were all the same, we have a blue Pit Bull you can adopt. No, it had to be Matty! Matty's time was coming near and they scheduled a euthanasia date. I was in tears daily. Finally, though, last minute, the day before he was to be killed, Amber from One of a Kind Pet Rescue said she would pull him for me! I was ecstatic! I picked Matty up from the impound on January 2nd, 2013. He wasn't perfect, but he was perfect for me...and he didn't become a statistic....he is truly my heart & soul. He brought Cheyenne and I out of a deep depression over losing Teddy, my Chow Chow, to Lymphoma. Matty started my learning journey into rescue. I havent been in very long. I have held many roles ( vetting, intake, foster, events and fundraising coordinator to just name a few) in the rescues I have been in, and I have fostered about 100 puppies. I was blinded, ignorant of all that was happening prior to Matty. My blinders were lifted, Matty and I, with some friends would like to make a bigger impact. Mission is to bring hope back to the discarded, abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs and cats, and provide them with all they need in a loving foster family until they find their perfect forever home. Best Friends in Houston works collaboratively with city shelters, local animal welfare organizations and passionate individuals to save the lives of pets in shelters in Houston and the surrounding areas. To guide this work and help Houston become a no-kill city for cats and dogs, Best Friends launched the Coalition to Save Houston’s Pets in April of 2018.
