Texarkana Animal League

5820 Richmond Rd
Texarkana
Texas

info@texarkanaanimalleague.org(877) 525-4825
The Texarkana Animal League has been in existence serving the pet population of Texarkana since the 1940’s in various capacities. We have been animal advocates, contracted with both of our twin cities for the running of the daily operations of the shelter, and our latest adventure returns back to our roots as advocates. As of December 2008, our organization no longer held the contract to run the local animal shelter, and with that change in direction, we have been able to approach the animal community in a completely different direction. Although operations have changed our mission has not. The Texarkana Animal League exists to provide protection and care for abandoned, abused, neglected and unwanted companion animals. We also want to promote animal welfare through programs and services that mutually benefit animals and people. We have been able to use our annual fundraiser, the “Tails of Two Cities” Day Planner to start three community-based programs. One helps low income households spay and neuter their pets and another helps current rescuers with medical costs of special needs animals. Finally, we established a foster care program to pull needy animals from the community, as well as the shelter, which will provide the extra medical attention and socialization needed in order for the animal to become adoptable. low income, Spay/Neuter Assistance Program. Along with altering the companion animal, we have included a wellness check, vaccines, and a heartworm test. This program is provided to Bowie, Cass, Little River and Miller county residents for the low cost of $50 for dogs and $35 for cats. TAL covers all expenses for this program. Prices have been negotiated for the different procedures, but the cost remains the same to the public. All of our adoptable animals are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. These items will take an animal from no or nominal care to complete care and will make them highly adoptable. We have teamed up with Petfinder.com and PetSmart Charities to promote our adoptable animals.

We are a small, dedicated group of animal lovers who are working hard attempting to place neglected, abused, lost and otherwise homeless kitties. Our goal is to provide to as many kitties as possible, opportunities to find a loving home to call their own. We are very concerned about the ever growing over population of kitties and are diligent in our efforts to promote the spay and neuter of felines. We are an all breed rescue and work as a no kill group. All of our fosters are located in private foster homes as we are not a shelter. We are a very young group forming in June 2005, however all of our volunteers have years of rescue experience, countless contacts as well as a wealth of knowledge in caring for our furry four-legged companions. All of our rescues will be fully vetted, combo tested for FIV and Felv and fecal checked prior to any adoption. Additionally, all of our kitties will either be altered or a prepaid spay/neuter certificate will be required to those kittens not yet able to be altered.

Tailless Cat Rescue

Dedicated to finding exceptional homes for exceptional cats Specializing in Manx, but we'll accept Japanese or American Bobtails and Pixie-bobs In 1995 my neighbor's Manx cat had kittens. There was a tiny runt in the litter that wasn't expected to survive. I was there when the kittens were born, and I volunteered to provide a home for the runt if she made it. That was Misty, and the beginning of my love for the Manx breed. After several years of rescuing Manx and other tailless cats through all breed rescues, in 2006 I decided to start my own rescue and TCR was born. TCR is run entirely out of foster homes. So the number of cats we can take at a time is limited to the space we have. We also have to respect NC law which limits the number of animals that can be fostered at a time. And we will only have as many cats as we can afford to care for at one time. TCR is all about the cats. The rescue is based on the highest standards of honesty, ethics, and care for the cats in our program. Our motto is "Dedicated to finding exceptional homes for exceptional cats". And Manx and other tailless breeds really have exceptional personalities and deserve the best homes possible. Most of the cats come from animal shelters or pounds where they have run out of time and are going to be euthanized. We generally don't take owner surrendered cats. We believe that once you make a commitment to a cat, it should be for a lifetime. We will assist owners in how to find homes for their cats if they can no longer keep them, and will provide access to expert advice on solving behavioral or health problems so that it is more likely they can stay in their homes.
