How We Work Where we get our dogs: Most of our dogs come from animal control facilities (also known as dog pounds or "doggie jail"). They have either been found as strays or abandoned there by their prior owners. We also accept dogs directly from owners who no longer want them - most of the time, it's due to a change in their family circumstances and they find that the dog simply no longer fits into their plans, but sometimes it's truly an unfortunate set of events that require them to relinquish a beloved pet. How do we choose which dogs we accept: There are three main criteria we use to determine which dogs come into our organization for rehoming. First, and most importantly, is the temperament of the dog. In an ideal world, this would be the only criteria we would apply to accepting a dog for rehoming. We try to get as good a behavioral assessment as we can prior to committing to taking the dog. If a dog is still with its owner, we require that the dog be assessed by a professional selected by us before we will agree to accept the dog. Second, whether we have an open foster space available. This, sadly for many dogs, is simply a matter of lucky timing. We have no physical facility, so we have to wait for a dog to be adopted before we have a foster space available (although we dream of having a facility some day). Foster space is definitely the bottleneck in our ability to save more dogs. Third, if we have a way to get the dog transported from where it is to where the foster home is located. We sometimes have a dog in one state, but the open foster space is in a different state. If we have volunteers to help transport, we have to incur expense to board the dog for at least two weeks, get its vaccinations and have a health certificate issued in its home state before we transport the dog across into another state for fostering. If we have the funds and volunteers available, we can save the dog. Where are the dogs located: Once a dog enters our program, he or she lives in a foster home. Our foster homes are in many different states. The dog lives as a member of the foster family until he or she is adopted. The foster parents learn all about the dog and can give potential adopters a detailed description of the dog's personality and quirks. What keeps us going: WE LOVE PHOTOS AND UPDATES! Hearing that our dogs are doing well and that you're happy with them is what keeps us going in this otherwise fairly grim business. Please keep us posted on significant events or just whenever you happen to think of it. We love to hear from you!

CompAnimals Pet Rescue Inc

Pennsylvania

Info@companimals.org
CompAnimals Pet Rescue is a not-for-profit "no kill" rescue. Our mission is to take in unwanted, abandoned or abused dogs, cats and other small pets; to place those we can in loving, permanent homes; and to provide a sanctuary for the animals whose age, health issues or temperament precludes them from adoption. Our dogs & cats are neutered, vaccinated and receive all necessary medical treatment beford being made available for adoption. Through our volunteers and outreach programs we educate the next generation about the importance of spay/neuter and giving a lifelong home to their pets. We hope to one day put ourselves out of business but until then we will continue to rescue regardless of breed, age or medical condition.

We are a small group of individuals dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming white German Shepherd Dogs into their forever homes. First and foremost, we are all about the DOG. We do not place a dog in a home just because we need to make space for a new rescue. We put the dog's best interest at heart at all times and will not place a dog in a home that is not suitable. We do what we do for the love of the breed. We also help other rescues with transports.

Mutts in Need

Newport Beach
California

MuttsInNeed@gmail.com
We are a group of volunteers in Southern California, primarily in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, dedicated to saving the lives of abandoned animals. We care for strays, abandoned animals, victims of abuse, and have rescued many from euthanization in animal shelters across California. At the present time we do not have a facility of our own to keep them, so we rely solely on the good will of foster families who care for them until they can be placed in permanent homes. We also work closely with other rescue groups and we are always in need of volunteers to assist in showing the animals on weekends and especially to foster pets until they are adopted. Our founders started many years ago as volunteers with various non-profit organizations across the United States and have made pet rescue a major part of their lives. Most of us have our own families of dogs, cats, and other pets who once were also rescues. "Critters in Need Pet Rescue" is an established animal rescue and placement group. With your help and the help of our friends, we will be able to save many lives and bring much happiness to many people and animals alike. We are constantly in need of help in various fields of pet adoption. Volunteers are desperately needed to provide foster homes, help showing animals to the public in pet shows and events, home visitations, publicity, pet transportation and a number of other projects aimed at placing as many animals as we can in the very best of homes. If you would like to become a volunteer please send an E-Mail to CrittersRescue@gmail.com

A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue

A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue, founded in October 2007, is a 100% volunteer, foster-based 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue group based in Palm Beach County, Florida. From the Board of Directors to our Foster Caretakers to our Event Staff, each volunteer gives generously of their time and skills, motivated solely by a desire to help animals. A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue combines a no-nonsense goal of saving animals' lives with the blood, sweat, and tears of countless volunteers with financial support from various donors (individuals and corporations alike). Now in its sixth year, the group has rescued over 5,000 animals and continues to grow rapidly thanks in large part due to established relationships with various pet supply stores in Palm Beach County, including PetSmart and PETCO. All of the grant writing, fundraising, application reviewing, event planning, supply collection, bathing and bottle feeding is done by volunteers who seek only to save the lives of pets. When opening their hearts just isn’t enough for some, they open their doors - fostering dogs and cats in need until they are adopted. Their dedication has made the group one of the largest no-kill rescue groups without a shelter. Rescuing and arranging adoptions into loving homes for so many animals and successfully treating dozens of heartworm positive dogs are monumental tasks that have not gone unnoticed by the local media. The Palm Beach Post, The Wellington Town Crier and The Observer have all written articles promoting the group and its goal of finding homes for homeless pets. Accomplishing our goal of saving homeless pets’ lives by providing them with safe, healthy foster environments until they are adopted by loving forever families, requires funding to pay for the food and medical needs of the rescued animals. Donated funds go directly to covering food and supplies, veterinary expenses and medical supplies, and overhead costs (printing of forms, webpage hosting, etc.). A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue relies solely on donations. We do not receive any government funding or grants. We hope that after all you’ve learned about us, you will join us in our effort to save the homeless animals.
