APS-FH was formed in 1982 to help stray and abandoned pets on San Juan Island. We are a no-kill 501 (c) 3 non-profit with no state or county funding. We rely strictly on donations and fundraising, with some funds coming in from adoptions and impound fees. Our adoptions average about 85-100 cats and 55 dogs per year. We also network with other shelters that are overloded by taking in some of their animals when we have the room. I joined the shelters board of directors and was a volunteer for 2 years until a position came open for Director in 2004. I have been the director ever since and absolutely love my job. Our shelter is small enough where we have the opportunity to give the animals the love and attention they need until they are matched up with their forever family.
