We are a brand new rescue group who was just formed in January 2019. All of our rescue dogs come from rural areas that have been abandoned, surrendered, stray, or otherwise homeless. Most of our dogs currently are rescued in Texas. We are in the process of obtaining our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and should be receiving our state incorporation paperwork any day now (was submitted 4-5 weeks ago). We are happy to provide any documents needed to prove our nonprofit application status.
Step 1: Application
All potential adopters must first submit an adoption application (online or in person). Once submitted, one of our volunteers will review the application to make sure that the family and home are suitable and safe for either 1) the specific dog that was listed on the application, or 2) is a suitable applicant for any dog.
Step 2: Phone Interview
The volunteer who reviewed the application will contact the applicant for a phone interview. During the interview, the volunteer will ask more questions to 1) ensure the dog that was applied for is a good fit, 2) recommend a different dog that would better fit the applicants needs, and lifestyle/home environment, or 3) to notify the applicant that their application is denied (if there are significant red flags that deem them not suitable to adopt any dog).
Step 4: Home Visit
When/if the phone interview assessed the applicant has been approved to move to the next step, we do an in person home visit (preferred method) or thorough video home visit (via FaceTime or skype) if an in person visit is not feasible. This ensures that the home is safe and a suitable environment for the specific dog(s) that the applicant has applied for.
Step 4: Finalize Adoption
Once steps 1-3 have been performed and approved, the applicant must fill out and sign an adoption contract (which requires the adopter to keep the dog up to date on all annual/semiannual vaccines, provide monthly heartworm/flea/tick preventatives, take dog for annual wellness checkups, spay/neuter at the earliest recommendation of their vet if dog is not of age or healthy enough to have procedure at time of adoption, and other requirements to keep the dog safe, happy, and healthy). The adopter must also submit adoption fee at this time ($400 for dogs less than 8 years old, $250 for 8+ years)
