Description

DHDR was founded on January 6, 2009. Our mission is (1) to rescue placeable purebred Doberman Pinschers in Arizona, evaluate and treat them, and place them in suitable, qualified, and loving forever homes, and (2) to educate the public about our breed and about living with a Doberman.

Our first priority is to save fundamentally sound dogs who are at high risk of death or abuse, dogs on shelter “kill” lists, strays, and foundlings in accordance with applicable laws. After exploring all other options to keep them in their present homes, and when our resources permit, our second priority is to save owner-surrendered purebred Dobermans from being sent to a shelter or destroyed.

Adoption Process

Written application first, telephone interview next, reference checks, home visit, then dog introductions. Adoption contract is required as is permission from any landlord if not homeowner. All family members and resident dogs must meet prospective dog prior to adoption. We also request an adoption fee ranging from $200 to $500, depending on the age and condition of the dog. For example, a young, healthy, and pedigreed dog would come in at the higher end of the range. These donations are the only way we can afford to operate the rescue. Vet fees alone average $350 per dog. All rescues receive a full medical exam, all vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. When you adopt, we will provide you with the dog's medical records and a microchip.
