Here at the Humane League of Lancaster County, we are trying to build the best community anywhere to be an animal. This is happening due to our innovative and life saving programs. As a shelter, not only is it important to help homeless animals find new and loving homes, but it is also about helping our community's pet needs. This could be through our Spike's Pet Pantry (pet food pantry), Safe Haven (temporary emergency housing), low cost vet clinics and services, etc.
I personally have been with the Humane League's parent organization, Humane Pennsylvania, for over 5 years. I started as an Adoption Counselor, assisting clients primarily with strays, surrenders, and adoptions. I am now the Donor & Alumni Relations Coordinator, where I help to cultivate donors, send out acknowledgements for donations received, help manage social media and other tasks as needed. I absolutely love what I do, it is an extremely rewarding job.
First steps of our adoption process includes filling out an adoption interest form, providing photo ID & proof of address, meeting with the animal. If the potential adopter would like to move forward and take the animal home, we will then have them sign any waivers (surgical from S/N, behavior, medical) and the adoption contract. Adoption fees range depending on the age of the animal and are due at the time of adoption. In addition, anyone adopting a cat must purchase or bring a cat carrier to safely transport the cat home and anyone adopting a dog must purchase or bring a leash and collar to transport the dog home.
