Kane County Animal Control

Cats

Description

Kane County Animal Control oversees rabies registration, protects public safety and ensures the humane care of animals through sheltering, pet placement, education and animal law enforcement.

KCAC is responsible for the enforcement of the County Animal Control Ordinance. Together with local law enforcement and city animal controls, we ensure the humane treatment of animals in Kane County. Depending on where you live in Kane County, you may be served by your local animal control facility, your police department, a state-level agency, or KCAC. For the quickest handling of your concern, first determine whether you live in an incorporated or unincorporated area of the county to make sure you contact the appropriate agency.

Adoption Process

All adopters are required to fill out an adoption application prior to meeting an adoptable animal. This application will be reviewed by staff during your visit. KCAC's adoption application, adoption liability and waiver, as well as adoption policy can be viewed at this link: http://www.kanecountypets.com/AnimalWelfare.aspx

Fees to adopt an animal:

Dogs: $200

Cats: $100

What does my animal come with at time of adoption?

All animals adopted from KCAC are neutered, microchipped, given a behavioral exam, a medical examination by our veterinarian, and receive a battery of vaccines, medications, and blood tests. These include the following:

Dogs: DHLPP distemper vaccine, Bordatella vaccine, Heartworm screening, Deworming and Fecal exam

Cats: FVRCP distemper vaccine, Feline Leukemia test, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus test, Deworming and Fecal exam

All animals four months or older will also include a current rabies vaccine, tag, and vaccination certificate. If the animal you adopt is under four months of age, we will schedule an appointment for rabies vaccination once the animal is an appropriate age.

All animals come with full disclosure of their medical history at KCAC, including certificate of rabies vaccination. Dogs will also be given a collar and leash of appropriate size; cats will be given a cardboard carrier for transport.

For further inquiries, call KCAC at 630-232-3555 and ask to speak with a member of our shelter staff.
