Description

About me: I'm Yurika- director and founder of Kitten Rescue 101. I have been in cat rescue for about 10 years originally fostering for a local human society. The school that I worked at had over 200 feral cats with litters of kittens being born all the time so I began TNR-ing the adults and fostering litters of kittens. However during Covid, all access to resources were shut down. I couldn't get spay/neuter appts, shelters would not take in animals, etc. Being known as the "cat person", many people reached out to me asking for help with kittens, but I had no resources. I had 16 kittens that I needed to find homes for with zero access to care. It was at this time, I decided that I needed to start my own organization, get 501-c3 status, and tax exempt status and I would have better access to vets, etc. Since our inception in 2021, we have successfully adopted out over 300 cats and kittens, have access to a rescue vet, meds, and partnerships with other organizations and companies. I even quit my professional job to do cat rescue and now work at a cat clinic! Cat rescue has changed my life completely and the impact that we have been able to make is exponential compared to rescuing cats as a solo individual.

About our Org:

It is our mission to rescue cats and kittens and provide them with supportive medical care, socialization, food, and shelter to reduce unnecessary suffering, and to find them a forever home. We believe that all animals deserve a chance at life. We are an all volunteer non-profit with just me and one primary other person who does all the intake, meds, posting, marketing, adoption events, etc. We have fosters, and a few other volunteers who help with caring for the kittens that are at our adoption center at Petsmart.

Adoption Process

- Interested party must submit an application. Application is quite long and is extremely thorough. Main things we look for are: ability to pay for unexpected medical expenses, kids/other pets in household, how long the cat will be left unattended on a daily basis, if they plan to declaw the cat (automatic no!), if they are open to a pair or if they have an existing cat, indoor only, contingency plan for if they can no longer care for the cat and responsible party's name and phone number)

- If applicant is a good fit, we will call back, screen adopter on the phone and offer an appointment time slot for a meet and greet at our next adoption event (usually every weekend at Petsmart)

- Meet and greet - we watch the behavior of the cat, how the person interacts with them etc

- If all goes well, we assign the adoption electronically, adopter signs contract, pays adoption fee (currently $175 adults, $200 for kittens)

- Adopter fills out Petsmart iPad if applicable (for in store adoption tracking purposes)
