Description

Our organization started about four years ago. We are employed with Hoisington Veterinary Hospital, in Hoisington Kansas. The owner, Linday Reif owns the clinic and has a contract to take in the stray cats and dogs in Hoisington Kansas. After the three day stray hold, Hoisington wants the animals euthanized. The owner of the hospital decided to take the stray dogs and cats and place them into new homes. This just really evolved and four of us decided to be founders of a rescue, LADA Paws. We have four founders, our Vet Dr Lindsay, Amber our Kennel manager, Desirae our office manager and Arica our groomer. We were officially a rescue July 2021. We received our 501c3 status later in the year. For the year 2021 we had just over 200 adoptions, Jan-Dec. This year 2022,we are at 198 adoptions from Jan-Sep. We are "tagging" animals from MO, OK, KS and TX (sometimes). We were gifted a transport van and after some minor repairs we will be able to use this instead of our personal vehicles. We have short term plans and long term plans. We are still learning and trying to find the program that works best for us.

Adoption Process

We have our adoptable animals on Petfider. We have a link on Petfinder that takes people to our adoption application linked through Shelterluv. We also have a link through the veterinarian hospital that takes you to petfinder available animals. We have two founders that review and either deny or approve every application. Every person is emailed that applies stating they are approved or the animal has been adopted. We also communicate with potential adopters if they are unsure what type of animal they would like to meet. Our applications are approved if the animal is not going to be an outside animal unless being adopted out as a TNR for barn cats. All applicants must be 18 years or older to adopt. We also look at how many animals are in the home, veterinary information and animals need to be spayed or neutered, updated on vaccines and preventatives. We communicate through email so we are able to keep potential adopters apart from one another and we can reference back to emails if needed. After emails are exchanged, we set up a meet and great with potential adopters. Some animals are kept in foster homes, and most animals are kept at our veterinary facility. During meet and greets, we have a "counselor" in the room to help answer any questions. If the people would like to adopt, there is a go home bag that goes home with every animal, it contains a bag of food they are eating, flea/tick preventatives for one month and heartworm preventative for one month, we also try to include some training treats or little cat toys if we have some on hand. Every animal goes home with medical information. We give them previous medical records if they were vetted or vaccinated at any other clinic before being transferred to us, and we include the vetting that we have provided when the animals are with us. Every animal is Microchipped, spayed/Neutered, vaccinated etc. Puppies are able to go home unaltered with a 75$ deposit that will be returned to adopter when we have proof animal was altered. This MUST happen within 6 months. Every adopter signs an adoption contract and we are in the middle of creating new documents for our contracts. Adopters can pay cash, venmo or paypal. We are looking into Square reader so people have the option to use credit or debit card.
