McHenry County Animal Control & Adoption Center serves the people and pets of McHenry County. We promote responsible pet ownership and animal safety through services like humane education, low cost microchip and rabies vaccine clinics, and connections with community partners for other services. We help reunite owners and lost pets, and have an adoption center where we adopt out pets that are unable to be reunited with an owner.
Adoptions are by appointment only. In order to meet our adoptable pets, first fill out an adoption application on our website. After your application is reviewed, we will call you to go over any further questions and set up an appointment time. We require that adopters are 18 years or older, provide contact information for their landlord if they rent, and that other pets in the home are up to date on rabies vaccinations.
Adopters can take their new pet home the same day as their appointment. We do ask that all members of the household are present at the appointment and that dogs are brought in for a meet & greet to help make the best placement possible.
Adoption fees are $100 for kittens under 6 months, $80 for cats over 6 months, $150 for puppies under 6 months, and $125 for dogs over 6 months.
