I am Angie Koczkur founder of the Society and I started this 7 years ago when I moved to Merritt and would see all these homeless sick cats in the downtown core. Upon going to the City and asking for help to no evail I found out that they hand out traps and let citizens do whatever they wanted with the animal and further investigating showed the local vets do not give people a break on sterilizing but 65% of Merritt is either low income, disabled or fixed income so they are just adding to the problem. I want to make it stop and over the years have put myself 40,000.00 in debt. The shelter originally started in my home but then the City said I was breaking the by law of 2 animals per household so I had to open a shelter to the tune of 2500.00 plus a month. I currently have 500+ cats and 20 dogs under my umbella and need desperate help, a piece of property for a Sanctuary would be nice. I do it cause they can not speak nor help themselves so I am their voice and their help for sterilizing/vaccinating and finding their forever home.
$80 for cats $150 for dogs, lenghty adoption form to be filled out which allows home visits anytime and if they can no longer keep the animal it must be returned to our group and if they have another home in mind we go thru the adoption process again with the new family but no fee is charged, we just want to make sure they are in good forever homes cause they have all been let down by humans in the first place and we want to make sure this does not happen again.
