Founded in 1957, the Potsdam Humane Society (PHS)* has been providing love and humane care for unwanted, abandoned and sick animals in Potsdam and surrounding areas for more than 50 years. With the support of the Potsdam community and 11 surrounding townships, PHS delivers services and protection to over 1,200 cats, dogs and other animals each year. The compassionate, humane care you help us provide also makes our community better, as the kindness we extend to animals will inevitably influence our lives in immeasurable ways.
PHS aspires to find homes for all animals that find their way to our doorstep, and to ensure that none of them will ever lose their lives due to lack of space or the resources to care for them. We welcome your support and assistance in achieving these goals, and in continuing a 50-year tradition of humane and compassionate care for the animals with which we share our lives here in our own hometown area.
To adopt a pet, one would simply fill out an adoption application. We would ideally like all family members to come and meet the potential new addition to the family. One mandatory greeting will be between your current pup(s) and the prospect one. All current pets must be up to date on vaccinations. PHS must also get verbal confirmation from the homeowner. Aldult cats are $50, kittens $70, adult dogs $95, and puppies $115. This includes the pet being spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, de-wormed, flea treatment, heartworm testing and preventative, leukemia tested, a bag of food (to mix with it's new diet), a free local Vet check, and a month of free pet health insurance.
