Description

The Richmond SPCA is a non-profit, no-kill humane organization founded in 1891. We are dedicated to the simple principle that every life is precious. The Richmond SPCA is a national leader in humane care and education. We embrace the principles of the no-kill philosophy and are dedicated to providing uncompromising care for animals.

The Richmond SPCA is not affiliated with any other private animal welfare organization or SPCA. However, because we regularly transfer pets from local municipal agencies into our care, we bring in more than 70 percent of our homeless pets from a variety of surrounding animal welfare organizations. The remaining 30 percent are composed of owner surrenders. In a single year, we save the lives of more than 3,000 orphaned dogs and cats.

The Richmond SPCA operates the Clinic for Compassionate Care, a full-service veterinary clinic. We also offer a variety of services, including a behavior helpline, pet behavior classes, children's educational programs, a pet pantry, affordable wellness clinic, numerous volunteer programs, pet retention programs, feral cat resources and companionship programs.

Adoption Process

Anyone interested in adopting an animal will first be asked to complete an Adopter survey. Once the survey is finished, the potential adopter will be guided by members of our adoption team to the animals that best fit their expressed needs and expectations. A valid picture ID, proof of age, proper form of payment and a carrier/leash for the new pet are also required. We also provide an interactive Meet Your Match survey online that can be completed prior to visiting our adoption center.
