Description

My partner and I work together caring for the kittens out of our home. We have always had a passion for saving all lives. Stepping on an ant isn't in our DNA. =) We do this because the feral population is out of control in the area where I work a full time job. I have colony of ferals I have TNRd over the years, but we can never get them all, so kittens pop up throughout the year. I take the kittens when they are old enough to roam around and can survive without mom. This ensures I am not trying to TNR them later, after they have become too feral to tame. We then take them to our vet for a wellness visit, dewormer, FELV testing, and anything else the vet recommends, then we work on finding them homes. Most kittens are sterilized by our vet between the age of 5-6 months.

Adoption Process

First, we have the potential owner fill out a pre-screening questionnaire. Then we schedule an appointment and help them choose a kitten based on their needs and the kittens needs, personality, etc. They must sign a contract, agreeing that if they can no longer care for the kitten, it will be returned to SCKR. All kittens must be spayed or neutered. If they are adopted before this takes place (5-6 months old) the potential owner(s) are listed as "fosters" until they schedule an appointment with our vet, no later than 30 days after the kitten turns 6 months old. Once the procedure is completed, our vet emails us a certificate and we send the owner their owner contract since they are no longer considered foster parents. This ensures the kitten is sterilized. If they go back on the agreement and refuse to sterilize the kitten, I'm technically still the owner and will recover the kitten.
