Smidget Rescue specializes in finding homes for dogs under 25 pounds. You know, "Super Midgets!" Occasionally, we have larger dogs available.
Smidget Rescue is a small organization with one founder and several volunteers. Since we are a home, foster based rescue, we do not have a facility and therefore are not open to the public. Additionally, we do take Sundays and Mondays off, if we don't have an adoption event scheduled.
Our dogs come from high kill shelters in California, Eastern Washington and locally. We also take in owner surrenders and sometimes have puppies that are born at the rescue to momma dogs pulled pregnant from the shelter. They are the homeless and forgotten dogs. Great dogs with fabulous personalities, but they would never have a chance at a home otherwise. We are overjoyed to bring them to Smidget Rescue to find their forever families!
If you would like to adopt a new friend, please contact us at smidgetrescue@hotmail.com to request an adoption application and start the process!
Come and join the Smidget Rescue family and see how adopting a small dog will change your life forever! Once you go small, you never go back!
We pride ourselves on making perfect matches for our families and our dogs. We don't do same day adoptions because we feel that both the dog and the family have to be cohesive. That comes with talking to references, talking to your vet, meeting all the residents in the home, both human and animal alike. We want our dogs to be happy in their new homes and our adoption process allows that. While you can't take one of our dogs home the same day, we promise, it will be worth the wait!
Our process is simple, but sometimes takes a few days. If you are interested in a certain dog, please contact us for an application. Adoption applications do not bind you to a dog or our rescue. They just answer some simple questions such as "do you have a fenced yard" and lists your references. A meet and greet is usually done at our weekend adoption events, at the foster home or sometimes at your home. We ask that you bring all the members of the family that will live with the dog, including other dog siblings. We want to see how you interact with the dog and answer all your questions. After the meeting, if you would like to adopt the dog, I will call your references, do a background check and speak to your veterinarian.
Next is a home visit, where we will check out the yard, your fence and observe the environment that the dog will live in. We will make suggestions to help the dog transition better. We usually bring the dog with us to the home visit and if all works out, will leave them with you that day. This usually takes about an hour. At the home check, you will complete the adoption contract that is required to adopt one of our dogs. You will also be asked to pay the adoption fee.
If for any reason the dog is not working out in your home, it must come back to the rescue. However, the adoption fee and any costs that you have incurred during the ownership of the dog are not refunded.
