The cat (Felis catus) is a small, carnivorous mammal known for its agility, sharp senses, and playful behavior. Domesticated for thousands of years, cats are popular pets worldwide, valued for companionship and their ability to hunt pests. They have soft fur, retractable claws, and communicate through vocalizations, body language, and purring. Cats are independent yet affectionate, adapting well to various environments and forming strong bonds with humans.

We serve as both a Humane Society organization and a local pound. We try very hard to find homes for our homeless pets. The board of directors is comprised of local people from many walks of life that care deeply for animals. We have employees who do their best to make the animals feel loved and cared for while in our shelter.

We are a nonprofit corporation that raises funds for strays that are collected in Hot Springs Village and brought to the POA Animal Control. If an animal is determined to be adoptable we work to have it adopted. Our volunteers also work at the Adoption Center to feed and clean the animals. In addition we run spay and neuter clinics and work with local schools to educate children about pets and animals.

We believe all life matters, and the animals did not ask to be on the situation they are in. We do not want to see them die or neglected, therefore we put forth our best effort to rehabilitate them and care for them until a new home is found.

The Amarillo SPCA is a 501(c)3 non profit organization. We operate solely on donations and fundraisers. We operate a shelter for dogs and cats and have approximately 140 animals, most of which are housed at the shelter. A few live temporarily in foster homes. One of our main concerns as an organization is pet over population. It is important that the public be educated about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. It is also our goal to make sure every animal that is adopted from the SPCA is sterilized before going to a new home. We receive calls daily from people who request help with their animals--either needing to give them up or asking for help with food and medical needs. We help whenever we can. Our kennels are full most of the time but we will try our hardest to accommodate any animal that is homeless or needing a home. Because of our own expenses, we rarely are able to help the public with pet care costs. We do provide spay and neuter vouchers for a significantly reduced fee. We also provide microchipping services to the general public for a reduced fee. We have grown to the extent that volunteers alone cannot provide necessary hours for operating the kennels. We have a shelter manager and part time employees along with volunteers who work hard maintaining the shelter. Many animals we bring into the shelter need immediate medical care, and all animals that come to us receive their shots, a microchip and sterilization before being adopted into their new homes. Frequently these expenses are far more than the adoption fee of $100. It is our duty to provide the best medical treatment possible regardless of cost for our animals--and therefore our vet bills are always very large. We have created this website to provide accessible information concerning all of the animal related organizations and events that are occuring in the Texas Panhandle as well as a resource base for those seeking advice or care for their pets. Therefore, we invite anyone who is affiliated with a particular animal welfare organization, specialized pet-owner group (such as pet therapy or obedience training,) or any business that is in the service of animals (veterinarians, groomers, pet sitters, etc.) to contact us so that we may tell the public about your organization or business. We do, however, respectfully decline to list any breeders or to promote breeding services as it is not in alignment with our mission of curbing the pet overpopulation crisis. Thank you, The Amarillo SPCA

SPCA of Northern Virginia

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Northern Virginia is a non-profit, volunteer-based, private organization established by local concerned citizens to rescue domestic animals from cruelty, neglect and abandonment. We receive all our funding from membership dues, donations, and fund-raising events. We are always striving to enlarge our animal rescue operations and expand our services to the community. Our voluntary Board of Directors, committee members, and volunteers are responsible for all SPCA activities. We do not have a shelter facility, and depend on foster parents to care for domestic animals until adoption. Investigating reports of cruelty, abuse, neglect and abandonment is one of our primary functions. In most situations, an animal need not be removed from its home. Education is the key to successful pet ownership and the prevention of future inhumane treatment of animals. Adoption volunteers find homes, both through individual appointments and at our open houses for domestic animals brought into custody by our state-licensed humane investigators and dedicated volunteers. Humane education is vital to animal welfare. We offer speakers to schools, adult and children's groups, and individuals requesting information. Our public relations volunteers give us important contacts with the media and allow us to reach out to a growing number of people. We also have a newsletter; and offer free animal education articles and problem-solving assistance to the community. Our fund-raising volunteers research and coordinate new avenues to obtain funds for use in helping animals. Since we do not receive any state or county funding assistance, the fund-raising volunteers are always looking for new sources of revenue. Foster homes provide a special environment for our animals to receive the love and attention they so desperately need. Foster home volunteers provide reassuring contact for animals that may have been exposed to cruelty or neglect. They evaluate the needs of each animal and provide valuable information to prospective new owners. The SPCA does not, as policy, euthanize, and takes in animals as foster homes become available.

Kitty City Kansas Rescue is a small group of independent rescuers and individuals who have an affinity for cats! We specialize in kittens that are too young to thrive in the traditional shelter environment, kittens that need extra socialization, and Siamese and Maine Coon mixes. Because of the alarming number of cats that are euthanized in shelters and cats that are left to fend for themselves on the streets, we strongly support spay/neuter and responsible pet ownership. Our goal is to find a lifelong match for the adopter and the cat or kitten. We have dog, cat and kid friendly animals available, as well as special needs kittens and cats.
