The dog is a domesticated mammal known for its loyalty, intelligence, and companionship. Descended from wolves, dogs come in a wide variety of breeds, sizes, and temperaments. They are social animals, often kept as pets, working animals, or service animals. Dogs communicate through barking, body language, and facial expressions. Their keen senses, especially smell and hearing, make them valuable in roles such as hunting, herding, guarding, and assisting people with disabilities.

SPCA of Northern Virginia

P.O. Box 100220

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Northern Virginia is a non-profit, volunteer-based, private organization established by local concerned citizens to rescue domestic animals from cruelty, neglect and abandonment. We receive all our funding from membership dues, donations, and fund-raising events. We are always striving to enlarge our animal rescue operations and expand our services to the community. Our voluntary Board of Directors, committee members, and volunteers are responsible for all SPCA activities. We do not have a shelter facility, and depend on foster parents to care for domestic animals until adoption. Investigating reports of cruelty, abuse, neglect and abandonment is one of our primary functions. In most situations, an animal need not be removed from its home. Education is the key to successful pet ownership and the prevention of future inhumane treatment of animals. Adoption volunteers find homes, both through individual appointments and at our open houses for domestic animals brought into custody by our state-licensed humane investigators and dedicated volunteers. Humane education is vital to animal welfare. We offer speakers to schools, adult and children's groups, and individuals requesting information. Our public relations volunteers give us important contacts with the media and allow us to reach out to a growing number of people. We also have a newsletter; and offer free animal education articles and problem-solving assistance to the community. Our fund-raising volunteers research and coordinate new avenues to obtain funds for use in helping animals. Since we do not receive any state or county funding assistance, the fund-raising volunteers are always looking for new sources of revenue. Foster homes provide a special environment for our animals to receive the love and attention they so desperately need. Foster home volunteers provide reassuring contact for animals that may have been exposed to cruelty or neglect. They evaluate the needs of each animal and provide valuable information to prospective new owners. The SPCA does not, as policy, euthanize, and takes in animals as foster homes become available.

Kitty City KS

Kitty City Kansas Rescue is a small group of independent rescuers and individuals who have an affinity for cats! We specialize in kittens that are too young to thrive in the traditional shelter environment, kittens that need extra socialization, and Siamese and Maine Coon mixes. Because of the alarming number of cats that are euthanized in shelters and cats that are left to fend for themselves on the streets, we strongly support spay/neuter and responsible pet ownership. Our goal is to find a lifelong match for the adopter and the cat or kitten. We have dog, cat and kid friendly animals available, as well as special needs kittens and cats.

Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue's mission is to provide shelter and loving care for animals who have been abused, abandoned, owner surrendered or otherwise destined to be euthanized due to over-crowded shelter conditions. At no time shall they be euthanized due to time constraints, medical need or other issues. Through the use of foster homes, Proverbs will provide loving care for our animals. This includes veterinary care, food and any other necessity until responsible, loving homes can be found for all adoptable pets. All animals shall be spayed or neutered and we will make every effort to encourage those we encounter to do the same.

There are 5 founders of Pet Helpers, Inc since September 24. 2008 we have been helping in adoptions, some spay and neutering. rescues. There was a fire in a retirement home and one of our board members was there and the residents did not have anywhere to take their animals. We pulled together as a group and fostered all the pets until the residents coudl return home. This unit had about 120 retired and disabled residents living there. All the board members and members have a huge love for animals. Most all of us have rescued pets of our own and know how important it is to express the spay and neutering.

Kankakee County Animal Control & Adoption Center

We are a non-profit 501(c)3 shelter catering to the many stray, abandoned, neglected and needy pets within Kankakee County. We are committed to educating the public on animal welfare & care including necessity of vaccinating, microchiping and spay/neuter to reduce pet over-population. Many of these animals come to us as strays or their owners refuse to care for them. We work very hard with very limited resources to provide these animals with all they need and to find them new, loving and permanent homes. However, we stand firm with the following: * We will not accept, nor allow to be placed on us, the guilt that belongs to the owners of these pets. We did not cause these pets to become a problem or inconvenience to their owners, we did not cause their owners to move, to have children, to become allergic, or to become ill.
