Species
Lizards are a widespread group of reptiles with over 6,000 species found on every continent except Antarctica. They have scaly skin, external ear openings, and most have four legs and a long tail. Lizards vary greatly in size, color, and habitat, ranging from deserts to rainforests. Many can shed their tails to escape predators. They are cold-blooded, relying on external heat sources to regulate body temperature, and feed on insects, plants, or small animals.
