We are a 501c3, non-profit, all volunteer animal rescue and welfare organization. We are dedicated to ending the explosion of homeless pets in this area; through low cost (sometimes no cost) spay/neuter, public education/awareness, rescue/adoption and support for feral/stray cats and their caregivers. We do this because there is an epidemic of abused, neglected, abandoned animals throughout Central Ohio. As a compassionate organization we are striving to end this suffering for them. Get them medical care, food and if necessary, a new home.

Miami Valley Dog Rescue is a group of like-minded dog lovers whose mission it is to rescue homeless and abandoned dogs, primarily from high-kill shelters, and carefully match them to loving forever homes. We are committed to providing quality temporary care by: placing dogs in devoted foster homes, bringing them up-to-date on their shots to insure that they are in good health, and helping control pet over-population by having them spayed or neutered. We believe every dog deserves to receive proper care and treatment, so we also work to raise the public's awareness of the plight of homeless animals as well as helping people realize the benefits of adopting an animal in need. We understand our limitations and realize we cannot save every dog. However, by working together, we help those we can... one at a time.

Chartered in 1966, FDHS is governed by a working Board of Directors. The FDHS services approximately 1800 stray, surrendered, and otherwise homeless cats, dogs, and other animals each year from Defiance and surrounding counties in Northwest Ohio. We are currently housed in the Justin F. Coressel Animal Shelter located near Defiance at the corner of St. Rt. 15 and Trinity Road. Our annual operating budget is approximately $125,000 with funding being received mainly through private donations, fundraisers, sponsors, memberships and adoptions. The FDHS employs a small staff, including our dedicated Shelter Director, Sarah Kadow. Our volunteer Board of Directors is composed of 8 devoted individuals who spend countless volunteer hours raising funds to help the organization. FDHS's mission: "To continually demonstrate its commitment to the highest principles of humane care and professional treatment for all injured, ill, stray or unwanted animals. We will provide for their safety and comfort; alleviate their suffering; strive to place them in homes that will provide a quality lifetime commitment; discourage all forms of animal cruelty; educate the public; foster humane behavior toward animals and establish a mutually positive relationship with the community." The FDHS requires that every adopted animal be spayed or neutered, and we strive to ensure that our adoptable animals are healthy. Spay or neuter surgery, heartworm or feline leukemia testing, general health check, with approprate vaccinations and/or treatments, are all factored into the affordable adoption fees for our dogs and cats. WE ARE NOW OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK! Stop by and visit all the animals any day from Noon until 5:00 pm! they are always happy to see you! Also, Find us on www.PetFinder.com!

We rescue, rehabilitate and re-home Shih Tzu and other toy breed dogs from a variety of situations. We pull from a number of shelters in and around Ohio; we take in breeder releases from commercial breeding facilities and owner surrenders as space permits. We do this so that hopefully we can reduce the number of Shih Tzu and other breeds euthanized in shelters due to space and place all of our dogs in loving permanent homes.
