Amarillo SPCA

The Amarillo SPCA is a 501(c)3 non profit organization. We operate solely on donations and fundraisers. We operate a shelter for dogs and cats and have approximately 140 animals, most of which are housed at the shelter. A few live temporarily in foster homes. One of our main concerns as an organization is pet over population. It is important that the public be educated about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. It is also our goal to make sure every animal that is adopted from the SPCA is sterilized before going to a new home. We receive calls daily from people who request help with their animals--either needing to give them up or asking for help with food and medical needs. We help whenever we can. Our kennels are full most of the time but we will try our hardest to accommodate any animal that is homeless or needing a home. Because of our own expenses, we rarely are able to help the public with pet care costs. We do provide spay and neuter vouchers for a significantly reduced fee. We also provide microchipping services to the general public for a reduced fee. We have grown to the extent that volunteers alone cannot provide necessary hours for operating the kennels. We have a shelter manager and part time employees along with volunteers who work hard maintaining the shelter. Many animals we bring into the shelter need immediate medical care, and all animals that come to us receive their shots, a microchip and sterilization before being adopted into their new homes. Frequently these expenses are far more than the adoption fee of $100. It is our duty to provide the best medical treatment possible regardless of cost for our animals--and therefore our vet bills are always very large. We have created this website to provide accessible information concerning all of the animal related organizations and events that are occuring in the Texas Panhandle as well as a resource base for those seeking advice or care for their pets. Therefore, we invite anyone who is affiliated with a particular animal welfare organization, specialized pet-owner group (such as pet therapy or obedience training,) or any business that is in the service of animals (veterinarians, groomers, pet sitters, etc.) to contact us so that we may tell the public about your organization or business. We do, however, respectfully decline to list any breeders or to promote breeding services as it is not in alignment with our mission of curbing the pet overpopulation crisis. Thank you, The Amarillo SPCA

We are a small non-profit (501(c)(3)) no-kill adoption shelter meeting the needs of the homeless and abandoned pets. All of the dogs that we take in are given a personality test to make sure they will fit in a kennel situation. They are all heart-worm tested and if positive, treated. Our dogs stay in big covered yard runs unless the weather is bad and then they are put up in their indoor kennels. Our cats are all FIV and leukemia tested before we take them in. If they are positive, we will not take them. We do not want to expose any of our cats/kittens to disease. We have a cageless kitten room and a cageless teenage/adult cat room. All of our animals are spayed/neutered and if too young the adopters are given a voucher to have it done when they reach the right age. We vaccinate/worm all our animals immediately. We do not take in Pit Bulls or Chows. We want to make a difference in these animals lives; we are their voice and we want to find them the best forever homes possible.

Take Me Home Pet Rescue (TMHPR), located in Richardson, TX, is a 100% nonprofit organization committed to reducing our homeless pet overpopulation. All rescued dogs and cats are sterilized, microchipped, and provided with necessary medical care, before being adopted. Reference checks and home visits are completed ensuring a good fit. Our rescued pets live in foster homes until adopted to experience the love of a “real family” while waiting for their very own forever homes. In January 2011 we opened a store front called the “Pet Adoption Center”. It is located at 580 W Arapaho Rd Suite 433, Richardson, TX 75080. The Center is our main office, a place to store supplies, isolation for incoming dogs and cats and it also provides us a place to hold our weekend adoption events. Each dog and cat receives individualized and appropriate medical care. Of course each pet is also sterilized, vaccinated, wormed, and microchipped. We often must provide heart worm treatment, fix orthopedic fractures, and repair internal injuries. Pregnant or nursing dogs and cats are also often accepted into our program. Our overall goal is to be sure the pet is healthy, sterilized, and a good match for the potential adopter in an effort to reduce any chance that the pet will be returned. All potential adopters are carefully screened to be sure that the personality and energy level of both the pet and pet family are a good fit.

My name is Jeff Tarpley. I am an independent rescuer in the Texarkana, Texas/Arkansas area. I am a one man rescue trying to make a difference in animal’s lives. All of the rescued animals on this site are rescued from shelters and owner surrenders. They are fully vetted, which includes spay or neutered, shots with rabies, heartworm tested, heartworm treated if positive, started on heartworm prevention and frontline. Any animal needing extra vet care is treated as well. All expenses to vet and care for the animals are out of my own pocket. In June 2007 I started transporting rescued and adopted animals around the four states area. My first transport was an abused (GSD) German Shepard Dog out of Louisiana headed to Minnesota. His name was Wilson and I will never forget him. Since meeting Wilson, I have driven 43,000 miles for the animals. I will continue to transport, donate and rescue for other rescue groups but my main focus will be helping animals that have very little chance to live.
