Houston Mini Pig Rescue

Texas
77084
houstonmpn@gmail.com
We are a group of animal lovers and advocates in, and around, the Greater Houston area. We rescue pigs and other farm animals in emergency situations, offer boarding for families in transition, rehabilitate the injured and sick, and we adopt out to approved and zoned pig homes. We do this for the love of the very misunderstood potbelly pigs that are so often discarded after less than 2 years with a family due to lack of research. We educate the public about these amazing babies in order to try to curb the amount requiring rehoming.

Help For The Dogs Inc.

Georgia

Gary@HelpForTheDogs.org(866) 833-8224
Gary became a private pilot in May 2011 at the age of 36. He wanted to do something useful with the new skill other than just practice landings. He did a couple of missions for Pilots N Paws. He was then asked if he could drive dogs which led into years of transporting for many rescues. He then created Help For The Dogs to raise money for transports and anything that could be done. In 2015, Gary’s wife Amy expressed the interest to pull dogs under the charity so they could control their own destiny. She thought she could work with foster dogs and fosters ‘fur’ parents the same way she worked with hundreds of foster kids and parents through the state of Georgia. In 2016 after Gary and Amy had their son, they registered with the state and city to be licensed. They came across a lot of talented, passionate people that could give/work with Help For The Dogs in many ways.

Natchitoches Humane Society

Natchitoches
Louisiana

natchitocheshumane@yahoo.com
We are the Natchitoches Humane Society, founded in 1972, in Natchitoches, Louisiana. We rescue abandoned, neglected and abused animals and provide medical treatment, spaying and neutering, socialization, training and love while they are waiting to be placed in their forever home. Our rescue facility is housed on the grounds of the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center, and the dogs housed on-site are cared for by inmates selected specifically for this job. They have play yards, and a large area where they are walked and given basic obedience training by the inmate(s) caring for them. We have a sick room, as well as a bathing area, and two quarantine kennels. We do not house cats at the facility, but do provide rescue for cats through fosters. In an attempt to reduce the number of unwanted pets, we provide assistance to low-income residents through our Spay Natchitoches program. It is our goal to reduce the population of unwanted animals in Natchitoches Parish through adoption, as well as through spaying and neutering. It is our hope that our parish will become the example of what can be done when people work together to achieve the goal of a better life for the animals that live here.

Washington Area Animal Adoption Group

P.O. Box 105
Virginia
20144
waaag@waaag.org
Every day, dogs and cats in good health with wonderful personalities are euthanized because of overcrowding. Many of these animals end up at the shelter through no fault of their own. Animals lose their homes when their guardians have died or moved or simply can no longer care for them. If we had our way, no dog or cat would spend its days in a cold, dark shelter. There is so much love and joy in these dogs and cats! Bringing these special animals into a home is not only good for the dogs and cats, these loving animals also transform the quality of life for the people who adopt or foster them. Created in 2012, WAAAG is a Veteran Founded, all volunteer nonprofit animal rescue organization. We help all types of dogs and cats; find safe and loving homes for those animals that are adoptable; and offer end of life care for those that are not. WAAAG's mission is to change the way the world things about and treats animals and to create better lives for them through rescue, foster, adoption and hospice. http://www.waaag.org/AboutUs/

Chama Valley Humane Society

New Mexico
87520
info@chamahumanesociety.org(888) 666-0641
Founded in 1998, the Chama Valley Humane Society is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization supported entirely through fundraising, private donations, and grants. Our mission is to provide no-kill solutions to reduce the population of homeless cats and dogs by sponsoring a spay and neuter program for companion pets and feral cats, working with regional shelters and foster homes to rehabilitate and rehome animals, and educating those in the community we serve about responsible pet ownership. We serve a 600 square mile area of northern Rio Arriba County, New Mexico. We do not have a shelter, but we try to take in all animals we can from the Village of Chama holding facility as well as strays and unwanted animals throughout our region. All rescued animals are fostered locally until they can be adopted or transferred to no- or low-kill shelters or rescues. In addition to rescue and foster, we support the following programs: • A low-cost spay-neuter program for community pet owners • An Angel Fund to help pet owners pay for unexpected veterinarian bills through a no-interest revolving loan • WAG ‘n READ - A Reading Education and Assistance Dogs® program that works in our local schools to strengthen the animal-human bond while enhancing the reading experience for children

Sonoma County CHANGE Program

1400 North Dutton Avenue #17
Santa Rosa
California
95401
director@sonomachangeprogram.com(707) 570-7050
The CHANGE Program was formed in 2007 to support local law enforcement in managing equine humane cases including neglect, abuse, abandonment and relinquishment. CHANGE is a state and federally accredited non-profit organization. It is not a county agency and is supported entirely by private donations. CHANGE provides 24/7 emergency transportation and foster care to horses in the custody of local law enforcement. All horses in the program receive complete veterinary care, hoof care, specialized nutritional support, and their own set of care supplies made possible by generous community donations to the CHANGE Tack and Supply Donation Program. Once rehabilitated, horses are then adopted by permanent loving families CHANGE also serves the community through education and outreach events such as law enforcement training seminars on equine-related subjects and low-cost castration clinics for the public. CHANGE also has served as a subsidiary in several courtroom cases by providing expert witness testimony. Some of the cases set legal precedent and garnered national media attention. Vision Statement To improve the acceptable standard of care for horses by being an agency of social change. Mission Statement To support local law enforcement as a subsidiary in equine cases through humane education, logistical and financial avenues. Core Values • Transparency • Accountability • Professionalism • Support of law enforcement • Education • Advocacy for horses • Ethical leadership • Service to the community through a novel approach Goals To be a transformative agency; to reach beyond business as usual To be a sustainable and secure organization In a county with more than 20,000 horses, resources for horses in law enforcement custody have at times been hard to come by. The unique housing, handling and management needs of horses make them a logistical challenge for municipalities, especially in light of tough economic times. But in 2007, horses in critical need found themselves with more options and a chance at a better future thanks to the inception of the 501(c)3 organization Coins to Help Abandoned and Neglected Equines (CHANGE). CHANGE functions as a community-based support network that assists local law enforcement with equine humane cases. CHANGE provides housing, veterinary care, farrier care and adoption services for horses in law enforcement custody. Since the organization’s inception, it has assisted with several dozen critical horses, many of whom entered the foster care program near death but were successfully rehabilitated and adopted into loving homes. But CHANGE doesn’t stop there--it also strives to educate law enforcement and the community about horse care. Through its efforts, CHANGE has helped to set legal precedent by providing expert witness testimony in several equine criminal cases. According to equine veterinarian Grant Miller, simply caring for horses who are victims of abuse and abandonment without addressing the root of the issue “enables the problem.” Miller, who founded CHANGE after euthanizing an emaciated and severely dehydrated horse left tied to a fence in 100-degree heat, describes a multi-pronged approach to the challenge of horse neglect. It all starts, and ends, with the law. “The law is the bottom line,” says Miller, “and if you enforce the law, you pull the situation up by the bootstraps.” CHANGE recognizes that prevention of horse abuse and neglect before it occurs is preferable to prosecuting and punishing offenders. That is why CHANGE works to offer education programs to law enforcement and the public in order to create a better understanding of basic horse care and handling. It’s a tall order for a little organization that subsists solely on donations from the community, but CHANGE is showing Sonoma County that big changes can come from the collective efforts of the community. "We are taking a new approach to an old problem," says Miller. “A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” The ongoing success of CHANGE is due to the overwhelming community support that it has received. It is clear that concerned community members want a method to contribute in whatever way they are able. When people see a horse in distress, they do not want to feel helpless. CHANGE gives them the tools they need to become empowered and to make their neighborhood a healthy place, for animals and people. Please donate today to help make a difference in the life of a horse in need and in your community.
