The Perfect Dog

PO Box 361441
California
95036
theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com(510) 333-4420
The Perfect Dog, dedicated to rescuing wonderful homeless or abandoned dogs from over-crowded shelters, is an organization serving the southern Bay Area. The Perfect Dog places dogs in need into temporary foster homes, where they are socialized, trained, cleaned, and prepared for adoption. Ultimately, The Perfect Dog strives to greatly reduce the number of unwanted dogs euthanized in shelters simply due to over-crowding or being deemed unadoptable. The Perfect Dog rescues the “IMperfect” dogs who have simply been overlooked at the shelter or who have special medical or behavioral issues which puts them at risk of euthanasia, and finds them the perfect homes. We never discriminate. If there is a dog in need, it doesn’t matter its age, breed, condition, history, etc. If it needs help, we will do what it takes to find a way to help the dog. We believe in giving every dog a chance and we believe there is the right home for every dog out there.

The purpose of the Santa Cruz SPCA is to ensure the best possible quality of life for animals and to promote respect and reverence for all. Our mission is to strive to prevent cruelty to animals, to stop pet overpopulation, to promote community responsibility and for the humane care, treatment and well-being of all animals through adoption, education, information, and action. The SPCA got its start thanks to Dr. Charles Edward Graves, who graduated from a San Francisco veterinary college in 1901 and was the first veterinarian in Santa Cruz County to treat small animals. In 1938, he donated his land to the Santa Cruz SPCA. In 1955 the Santa Cruz Animal Welfare Association was incorporated. Alva Enberg, founder, was also its first executive director. When the Santa Cruz County Animal Services Authority was formed in 2002, they took over the animal control contract with the county of Santa Cruz and the Santa Cruz SPCA became a private agency, focused on humane education, animal rescue, and community support. As a result of the SPCA's shift from a public-funded service to private agency, the only funding they receive is in the form of private donations.

Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter (SCCAS) provides animal rescue, regulation and humane care that protect the health, public safety and welfare of people and animals in Santa Cruz County. We currently rescue and assure safe, temporary shelter, veterinary and humane care for approximately 7,000 stray, unwanted, abandoned, mistreated, neglected and injured animals each year. Our shelter also provides 24-hour animal rescue service and is Santa Cruz County’s only full service, open-admission animal shelter. SCCAS provides two locations for owners to find and recover their lost pets and adopt new animal companions. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is a Joint Powers Authority serving the County of Santa Cruz, City of Santa Cruz, City of Scotts Valley, and the City of Watsonville. SCCAS is governed by a Board of Directors that has representatives from each of the participating jurisdictions. Our shelters are tangible evidence of Santa Cruz County’s commitment to animal welfare. They are supported by numerous volunteers and foster care families who provide thousands of hours of assistance to shelter staff at both shelter locations. We’re YOUR community shelter. We’d love to have you visit us or join us as a volunteer!

We provide a safe, cage free, no-kill facility for homeless and abandoned cats; love and care for these cats until they are adopted; educate the community on responsible cat ownership and find a loving permanent home for these cats We are giving cats a second chance at a new life. Through rescue, rehabilitation, medical care, spay/neuter, vaccination, micro-chipping, deworming and testing for FIV/FELV, we are preparing cats as lifelong pets for their new owners. It is our goal to partner with local shelters to rehome every homeless cat who's time may have run out and would soon be put to death because of space limitations.
