Adopt A Homeless Animal Rescue

Adopt a Homeless Animal Rescue (AAHA) is a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and assisting animals in crisis. We actively combat animal cruelty in any form. We have a particular commitment to pit bulls and aim to raise awareness about the breed, help those in need, and educate the public: •We seek to promote this lovely yet unfairly maligned breed as the sweet, intelligent, affectionate, and people-oriented dogs they are. •We assume stewardship over their well-being and strive to make this world a better place for them. •We serve as a resource and/or liaison for shelters, individuals, and the community at large, advocating for any animal in harm's way. •We also function in an advisory role for private citizens who seek assistance and guidance in better caring for their pets. We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Bella’s Bully Buddies is an all volunteer, non-profit organization whose mission is to rescue pit bull type dogs from abuse, neglect and abandonment. While the dogs are in our care, we provide excellent nutrition, training and enrichment, veterinary care and lots of love in our network of foster homes. Our goal is to find each and every one of them a forever home where they will be loved as a part of the family for the rest of their lives. Through everyday interactions and community events we work to educate the public about the loyal, intelligent and loving nature that make pit bull type dogs wonderful companions and family members.

We're a multi-species sanctuary for unadoptable, ill or infirm animals with whom we work behaviorally and provide hospice care but we also rescue and rehome house rabbits, all altered. We do it because we believe all animals have a will-to-be and we promote the viewpoint of Reverence for Life as conceived by Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Albert Schweitzer.

Dogs XL is a new “breed” of dog rescue, committed to the philosophy that there is no such thing as a perfect dog or a perfect home. The right dog is out there for everyone who is willing to open heart and home to a canine companion. Dogs XL operates like a social networking service for dogs, designed to match people and pets based on the principles of compatibility and compassion. As the name implies, Dogs XL specializes in finding homes for large dogs (typically 75lbs+). Large dogs are often first to be put to sleep in shelters because medical treatment and food for large dogs is more expensive than for small dog. Large dogs also take up more space at the shelter and on transports to adoptive families. Although owning a large dog is not for everyone, large dogs have many unique and endearing qualities. Here at Dogs XL, we believe the larger the dog, the more there is to love. Occasionally, Dogs XL will intervene on behalf of a smaller dog with an XL personality. Dogs XL also works with other local rescue groups to facilitate adoptions to families that might be a better match for a smaller dog. Dogs XL is an all volunteer, non-profit animal rescue group.

PetConnect Rescue was founded in 2005, in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and has evolved into a vibrant animal rescue organization. Our mission is to save the lives of dogs and cats that have been abandoned and place them in loving and permanent homes. On a daily basis, we respond to email and phone pleas for help for dogs and cats imminently slated for euthanasia. We pull these animals into rescue from over extended local shelters as well as rural shelters from West Virginia to Georgia. PetConnect Rescue is non breed specific organization and we are committed to stepping forward whenever we can and wherever there is the greatest need. PetConnect Rescue arranges for medical services for our rescues, which can range from routine treatments such as vaccinations and blood tests to serious medical conditions such as broken bones and embedded collars. All animals that come thru PetConnect Rescue are spayed or neutered to help stem the terrible problem of pet overpopulation. The rescues that come into our care are primarily placed in foster homes. (Some are boarded with reputable kennels or at vet practices as well). Our foster volunteers provide loving care and socialization for these animals while they await their forever homes. Thanks to donation drives we are able to pass on supplies to our foster families such as crates, food, collars, toys, bedding etc… In the fall of 2009, The Kyra Macy Foundation joined forces with PetConnect Rescue. As a result of their support we have been able to acquire a 5 acre property in Leesburg, VA which will serve as a sanctuary and wellness center for our rescues. The property is presently undergoing renovations and is expected to be ready to start receiving dogs and cats in the fall of 2010. The core mission of PetConnect is to rescue abandoned animals and place them in safe, loving and permanent homes. Time and again, potential adopters tell us that they are willing to wait to adopt from us because of the comfort level they have in working with our organization. We do our utmost to take the nervousness, uncertainty and difficulty out of adopting a pet and support the adoption process every step of the way. The level of volunteerism in all of this is heartwarming. Because of the dedication and commitment of our volunteers we are able to find loving homes for all of these animals who otherwise would not have had a chance. From high kill shelters to foster homes to adoptive families, PetConnect Rescue handles every step of the rescue process.
