The Humane Society is an independent, non-profit agency contracted by Warren County to operate the animal shelter, which we moved into in 1983. The Humane Society is not a department of city or county government. The city and county own the shelter building. The Humane Society receives funds from city and county governments to operate the shelter. This funding is used to pay for management/employee salaries, utility bills, cleaning supplies/chemicals, euthanasia solution, cat litter, fuel for rescue vehicles and building repairs/maintenance. Humane Society DONATIONS are used to pay for medical care of sick and injured animals, animal cages, incidental supplies such as food/water bowls, dog/cat treats, canned cat/dog food, dog/cat toys, supplies for fund raisers and education/outreach programs. Hill's Pet Products donates dog, cat, kitten and puppy food. We were lucky enough to open a second building in 2004 called the HILDRETH Adoption Center.

STAR, Saving the Animals of Rowan is a 501c3 organization committed to improving the conditions for the abandoned dogs of Rowan County, KY. Our few members work to find safe and loving homes or rescues for dogs that find themselves in the Rowan County Dog Pound. STAR members are dedicated to reducing the number of dogs euthanized due to the overcrowded conditions of this rural shelter. STAR is not the dog pound. We are a VERY small group of caring people who save pound dogs. Our goal is to get dogs out of the pound and to the safety of a rescue or a new home.

Our network of volunteers supports the efforts of individuals who have rescued homeless, abused or neglected dogs and cats by subsidizing the cost of spay and neutering, helping to find foster homes and adoptions . Fur Ever Friends, Inc. itself has no shelter, and operates totally through unpaid volunteers. Our funding comes from donations. Thanks to the generosity of many people, our reach has extended far beyond our small rural community and enabled hundreds of puppies and dogs, kittens and cats to find a better life. For example, we have: paid partial–sometimes total–costs of spay and neutering animals whose owners were unable to afford the surgery. subsidized the cost of crucial emergency veterinary care thanks to the generous help of several fine area veterinarians. arranged relays to transport dogs and cats hundreds of miles. distributed tons of pet food donated by Walmart Distribution Center and Kroger to rescuers sheltering costly ongoing dog populations. worked cooperatively with other animal welfare organizations to find adoptions for “our” animals and “their” animals. arranged foster care and found new homes for beloved pets whose owners died, or became too old, or ill to care for them anymore. counseled animal care givers with concerns about nutrition, feeding, weaning, fleas, training, behavior, grooming etc. treated dozens of scraggly strays with mange dip and worm medicine and had them immunized before placing them in foster care. lent equipment such as a kennel, cages, pet carriers, dog houses, humane trap free of charge for short term use. YOU ARE WELCOME TO WRITE OR EMAIL US FOR MORE INFORMATION. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN FOSTERING ANIMALS, WOULD LIKE TO ADOPT ONE, OR JOIN US AS A VOLUNTEER, LET US HEAR FROM YOU. AND, REMEMBER TO INCLUDE YOUR ADDRESS, EMAIL, AND PHONE NUMBER SO WE CAN CONTACT YOU! If you are interested in donating please know that all donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law. We accept donations by mail or online. If you wish to make a secure donation online, you may do so through our website at the following link: http://www.fur-ever-friends.org/Donations.html Description We are a not-for-profit organization and raise money through tax deductible donations to help animal rescuers with expenses for emergency vet care and spay and neuter. 100% of all donations go directly to assisting the animals.

Our organization is called Diamonds in the Ruff, Inc. We work tirelessly with local high-kill shelters in Eastern Kentucky to pull as many animals as possible to rehome them to a save forever home. We are trying to make a difference in the number of animals that are euthanized each year in our rural shelters. Our area has no strict spay/neuter laws in place which allows for an overflow of pets which results in euthanizia. All of our pets are kept in foster homes where they are crate trained/house trained, socialized with other animals and people of all ages.

I am a volunteer and work closely with president trying to lighten her load. We take owner surrenders and try to find them a forever home. We go to shelters and pull dog and put them in foster homes or with adoptive parents. I love rescuing animals and I have full family involvment. We have a rescued dog that took our whole savings because of health issues. There are so many more needy dogs, and I know I can help them so way or another.

In 2007, Mary Hall Ruddiman passed away leaving the bulk of her estate to Crittenden County to establish a "no-kill" animal shelter. Her will was very specific in what she wanted for the animals and it has been a long road to get us to the point where we are now. We opened the doors on December 6, 2010!!! In order for us to continue to make Mary Hall's dream a reality we will need the support of the community. Donations and volunteers are always needed and so appreciated. We will work directly with the Crittenden County Animal Shelter giving animals a second chance. Due to our space limitations and "no kill" status we must limit the animals we take in and will not be able to take animals directly. Our animals come strictly from the county shelter.
