Who We Are: A group of volunteers in Jackson County, MS dedicated to the mission of saving animal’s lives at the Jackson County Animal Shelter. We are a 501c3 Non-profit organization incorporated in the state of Mississippi. Mission Statement: • To assist Jackson County Animal Shelter with funds, food, supplies, shelter improvements, fostering and volunteerism. • To assist Jackson County Animal Shelter in securing good, reliable adoptive families for animals through social networking, transport to other states and local adoption events. • To educate the public on the importance of spay and neuter laws, animal protection laws and pet owner responsibility. How You Can Help: We always need responsible foster families; we cannot pull animals from the local shelter unless we have safe, reliable foster homes for them to go to for training, medications, spay and neuter hold and quarantine for transports. We work in conjunction with local and out of state Rescue organizations to save as many animals as possible through this fostering, adoption and transport program. Financially, we need funds for supplies, vet care and medicines, shelter pull fees and subsidizing transports to other states. Future projects include possible upgrades to the shelter to help reduce the spread of disease, increase animal capacity and thereby reduce euthanasia rates. We are also working on how to implement and fund low cost spay and neuter programs, micro-chipping, an adoption sponsorship fund and other life saving ideas. The mission of the Humane Society of South Mississippi is to advocate the bond between animals and humans, provide the highest quality services and compassion to the animals entrusted to our care, reduce companion animal overpopulation, and increase the save-rate of animals in our community. HSSM is a progressive open-admission shelter, which takes in about 12,000 homeless pets each year. In addition to housing the homeless, HSSM provides 10,000 spay/neuter surgeries through our Louise Fenner Claiborne Spay Neuter Clinic, and microchips countless others through our outreach efforts. HSSM's Board of Directors adopted an initiative, entitled Countdown to Zero, to end the euthanasia of healthy and treatable pets in our community by 2015.

Before THS was born, all stray dogs in Tunica County were picked up, held 5 days in outdoor kennels, and then were put to sleep. THS is the little shelter that COULD. There are NO paid positions and our volunteers work tirelessly 24/7 to keep our animals clean, vetted, loved and well cared for. PLEASE visit our web page or Facebook page and see how very much Gail Johnson and Sandy Williams are loved not only in this community but all over the US.

Our all-volunteer organization is funded by private donations only and is a 501(c)(3) status non-profit organization. East Mississippi Animal Rescue is not a shelter with visiting hours; animals are housed at the homes of volunteers. Rescue expenses are funded by donations and adoption fees. The East Missisisippi Animal Rescue sponsors a number of dogs and cats that we feel are highly adoptable. These pets are vaccinated, dewormed, and spayed or neutered for a low fee.
