The Richmond SPCA is a non-profit, no-kill humane organization founded in 1891. We are dedicated to the simple principle that every life is precious. The Richmond SPCA is a national leader in humane care and education. We embrace the principles of the no-kill philosophy and are dedicated to providing uncompromising care for animals. The Richmond SPCA is not affiliated with any other private animal welfare organization or SPCA. However, because we regularly transfer pets from local municipal agencies into our care, we bring in more than 70 percent of our homeless pets from a variety of surrounding animal welfare organizations. The remaining 30 percent are composed of owner surrenders. In a single year, we save the lives of more than 3,000 orphaned dogs and cats. The Richmond SPCA operates the Clinic for Compassionate Care, a full-service veterinary clinic. We also offer a variety of services, including a behavior helpline, pet behavior classes, children's educational programs, a pet pantry, affordable wellness clinic, numerous volunteer programs, pet retention programs, feral cat resources and companionship programs.

King Street Cats

25 Dove Street
Virginia

contact@kingstreetcats.org(703) 231-7199
King Street Cats is proud to be the only cat-exclusive, no-kill rescue facility in Alexandria, Va. We are 100% volunteer-run and rely solely on private donations. Prior to 2003 we were known as The Albert Foundation. King Street Cats houses 30 cats on average and because we are free-roaming, you can come and hang out on the weekends with the "cat-friendliest cats" in town! Our mission is to provide loving homes for the cats and kittens in our care, and to educate and assist the community in regard to cat welfare. We accomplish this through outreach to the local community by providing information on proper cat care, behavioral problems and other issues involving cats. If you call or email us, we will respond! We also assist local residents in locating and retrieving lost cats and assist individuals through the cat adoption process. We promote spaying and neutering, and all our cats and kittens are sterilized and fully up-to-date on shots prior to adoption. We also provide post-adoption support for adopters and anyone else that needs cat care advice. Because we only work in the area of cat welfare…we know cats! We believe that every cat, regardless of age or personality, deserves to have a forever home and our cats stay with us until that home is found.

Organization was started by our Executive Director in 2009 after retiring from the gym business and realizing that Stafford County didn't have a no kill rescue facility. In our first year, we helped 15 animals. In 2010, we helped 108 animals and in 2011, we helped 191 animals. We take animals in on surrender and pull from high-kill shelters, adopting to families that meet our requirements. We make a lifetime committment to our animals and require that, if the adoption doesn't work out, the pets are returned to us.

Ambassador Pit Bull Rescue (APBR) is a local breed specific rescue/placement organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and responsible rehoming of neglected, surrendered or otherwise homeless Pit Bull dogs in the DC Metropolitan Area (Northern Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia). Concurrently, APBR is dedicated to educating the public about responsible dog ownership regarding the proper care and training of Pit Bulls. APBR is an all-volunteer rescue organization with seasoned rescuers who have been rescuing and placing “Pit Bull type” dogs for many years. None of APBR’s officers, directors or rescuers receives any salary or compensation of any kind. Additionally, all administrative costs are kept to an absolute minimum, as every penny spent on administration is considered money taken away from the dogs. Private contributions are spent on the rescuing of Pit Bull dogs and include but are not limited to: shelter fees paid to obtain the dog, veterinary expenses for spaying/neutering, maintaining up-to-date vaccinations, various testing as needed for heartworm and other diseases, etc. Many of the Pit Bulls entering our program require additional medical treatment in order to treat infections, injuries, wounds or illnesses prior to being eligible for adoption. As adoption fees alone do not cover APBR’s actual costs incurred from these situations, APBR obtains substantial support from the general public. A small portion this income is set aside to invest into merchandise, which is sold as a fundraising activity. All of the activities of APBR will be governed by or conducted under the control and supervision of the officers and board of directors of APBR.

XOXO Pet Rescue, inc. is a soon to be 501c3 registered rescue. We are registered with the state as a Not For Profit company. Our mission is to save as many little furry lives as possible, through the dedicated efforts of our amazing volunteers and supporters. We will do our best to connect unwanted little lives with their new purrfect families! While we primarily rescue puppies and dogs, we will not limit our love to just the tail-waggers in need. As we can, we will also post our other furry or feathered friends in need of some love. We are a foster based rescue with foster homes throughout the Tidewater area. From the ocean front to Williamsburg and lots of spots between, we have loving homes taking great care of our little 4 pawed family members until they are placed in their permanent homes. Our puppies come from many sources, most of which are high kill shelters without the funding or support to keep these little furry friends any longer. They often contact us to come save lives. We travel to the shelters and take as many pups as we have foster homes to support. They are given their first shots (If not already done by the shelter), and a de-worming. Their Foster Family will then bathe and love on them until they find their forever home. Using a foster family, we get very accurate information about the dog’s personality. Their likes and dislikes, their compatibility with other pets, people, kids etc. The foster based rescue is an awesome way to get a pound puppy ready to be a family member!
